How to work with the Event content type

The Event content type is useful for providing details about events, deadlines, reminders, and other time-related information.

Step 1: Create an event

  1. Use the platform menu to navigate to Content > Add Content > Event.

Step 2: Add event details

  1. Enter the name of the event in the Title field.
  2. Select the event status from the Event Status menu.
  3. Select the format for the event from the Event Format menu.
  4. For all-day events, select the All day checkbox.
  5. Enter the Start day and Time and Ending time and End day for the event (note that selecting the All day checkbox will hide the Ending time and End day fields). You can use the calendar and time selector controls or enter date and time details manually into the fields.
  6. Select the event time zone from the Time zone menu.
  7. For repeating events, set the schedule from the Recurrence option menu. Choose Does not repeat for one-time events.
  8. Add a description of the event in the Event Description area. You can add content, images, links, quotes, and more within this section (see Text Editor for details about using the toolbar and text input area).
    1. If you would like to add an image within your content, click on the media icon (see Adding an image for instructions for adding an image using the text editor).
    2. Format all of your content and images using the text editor.
  9. Fill out the following fields in the Location section (note that In Person and Hybrid events also have an Address section with country-specific address fields):
    1. Location Name: Descriptive label for the event location, for example, the building name for an in-person event.
    2. Additional Location Details: Other information about the event location, such as directions to the accessible entrance.
  10. For an event with a registration option, fill out the following fields in the Registration Link section:
    1. Link text: A call to action link label, such as “Register for this Event”.
    2. URL: The URL of the registration page.
  11. Add additional components to the event details page by selecting the Choose component button in the Additional Content section (see Adding a component for instructions on how to add a component). Components added to this section will display in the Bottom Region, below the event details.

Step 3: Configure event settings

  1. Add a descriptive Excerpt to display on events lists and search results.
  2. Add a Thumbnail to provide additional context about the event for site visitors.
    1. The optimal image size (in pixels) for a thumbnail image is 1920 x 1536 (see Image Sizes for more details).
  3. We also recommend assigning taxonomy terms to events, to help filter events lists and search results (see Taxonomy best practices and Managing taxonomies for guidance on creating and using taxonomies).
  4. The first time you save an event, we recommend you save as a Draft so that you can preview the event and its links before publishing it to your site (see Publish Status for details about different publication statuses).
