Adding content to menus

How to add content to menus

When creating a new content type on the site, you have the option to add links to the Main navigation menu. For the Page content type, you have the option to add a link to the Section navigation menu.

Step 1: Add page to section navigation

Screenshot of menu settings section with the “Provide a menu link” checkbox selected and “Centers and Initiatives” in the Menu link title input. The Parent Link dropdown menu is expanded to show the menu structure, and “Research” is selected.
Provide a short Menu Link Title describing the content and select the appropriate location for the link from the Parent Link dropdown menu. Choose <Main navigation> for the link to appear in the main menu rather than in a  submenu.
  1. For the Page content type, the right sidebar of the page edit view includes a Section Navigation section with a checkbox to Show Section Navigation. Check the box to display a preview of the section navigation sidebar in the page edit view and a Section Navigation menu on the page you are editing. You can uncheck the box to remove the section navigation sidebar preview and menu from the page you are editing. See Creating a new page for more details on the section navigation menu.

Step 2: Add content to site navigation

  1. Below Section Navigation you will see the Menu Settings section. If you want to add a link to this content in a menu, select the Provide a menu link checkbox.
  2. Fill out the following information:
    1. Menu Link Title: The title of the link that you would like displayed.
    2. Description: A optional tooltip that is shown only when hovering or focusing on the menu item.
    3. Parent Link: The link (or section) that the page is associated with. This could be displayed in the main navigation or it could appear as an item within a specific category on the site.
    4. Weight: This allows you to change the listing order of the menu items. We suggest using the drag and drop functionality in menu settings to edit the order (see Managing menus).
  3. Select Save to see the content link in the main navigation, sidebar navigation, or both.
