Multimedia Accessibility
When we add videos and audio to websites, it enriches the digital experience for our visitors. But it’s important to make sure our multimedia content is accessible to everyone.
Video and Audio
- If the video has speech or other audio needed to understand the content being shown, include accurate captions and transcripts.
- If a video has visual content that is needed to understand what the video is about, add an audio description for the visual information or a descriptive transcript along with adding audio descriptions of the visual information.
- Add accurate transcripts for all audio files.
Image
- Image links need to describe the purpose of the link, not describe the image.
- Use alt text to describe your image, but avoid using language like “image of” in the alt text itself.
- Complex images like charts and graphs should have long descriptions and captions located near the image.
