How to navigate and edit nested content (VIDEO)

This training will help you understand the different layers of content editing in Harvard sites as a content manager. Mastering these layers is essential for accurate and efficient website updates.

Have you ever clicked edit and felt unsure what you're actually editing? You're not alone. In Harvard Sites, content is layered. You're usually editing one of three things: You're usually editing one of three things: the page itself, a component, or an item inside of the component.

When you edit a page, you can manage the overall structure, add content via the editor, edit the page title, or add and rearrange components. When you edit a component, you're adjusting how that section works. The items inside it, the section heading, block settings, and color configuration.  When you edit an item inside of a component, you're editing the actual content like text, images, or links.

Look at the heading at the top of your screen. It tells us what we're editing. If you're unsure, pause and check that title before making any changes.

Now that you understand the three layers, page, component, component item, editing should become much clearer. After completing this training, you'll confidently distinguish between editing pages, components, and items in Harvard Sites. Practice applying these concepts to manage content effectively and reduce editing uncertainty.
