How do I share a file for users to download?

There are two ways to do this, depending on whether the file needs to be discoverable elsewhere on your site.

  • If the file just needs to be linked from one place (like a sentence of body text), you can upload or select it directly from the text editor's Link tool using the Link to a file option. See Linking to a file for instructions.

  • If the file should also appear in resource lists, search results, or taxonomy pages, create a Resource for the file with the Resource Type set to Download File, then link to that Resource. When users select the link, the file downloads automatically.

If you plan to link to the file from other content, such as an inline link or component, create a Resource for the file and then use that Resource as the Link URL when linking to the file. When you create a Resource with the Resource Type set to Download File, when users select a link to that Resource, the file will download automatically.
