## How to add a Text component

### Step 1: Add and configure Text component

1. Add a Text component (see [Adding a component](/adding-component "Adding a component") for instructions on how to add a component).
2. Select the **Block Settings** tab.
3. Add an optional **Page Anchor Link** to allow for links to the Text component (see instructions under [Linking to page content](/linking-page-anchor-links "Linking to on-page anchor links")).
4. Select the **Color Settings** tab.
5. Select a color scheme from the **Component Color Scheme** menu and review the **Component Color Scheme Preview** to see the effect of changing the color settings.

### Step 2: Add content and save

1. Select the **Content**.
2. Provide a **Heading** that captures the topic of the Text component content. The heading should be clear and descriptive.
3. Set the heading level using the **Heading Level** menu. We recommend using H2 in most cases to introduce a new section, and H3 for subsections.
4. In the **Body** area, add content, images, links, quotes, tables, and more within this section (see [Text Editor](/resource/text-editor "Text Editor") for details about using the toolbar and text input area). Add your content for the Text component in this area.
5. Once you have finished adding content, choose **Save** to save the Text component.

## What is a Text component?

A Text component is a separate content block with a rich text editor that provides styling options and supports links, tables, inline images and other media.

Text components are often used to provide content outside of the main body of the page.

A Text component is composed of a heading and a content area that can include formatted text, images, quotes, links, and more.

A Text component is composed of a main heading **(1)** and a content area that can contain subheadings **(2)**, formatted text and links **(3, 4)**, images **(5)**, and more (see the [example Text component](https://drupaldemo.harvardsites.harvard.edu/about#example-text) on the Drupal Demo Site).
