## How to work with the Page content type

The Page content type is useful for working with unstructured content, from simple informational pages to complex pages that combine different content and components. (Also see [Creating a new page](/creating-new-page "Creating a new page") in the Basics section for instructions on creating a simple page.)

### Step 1: Create a page

1. Use the platform menu to navigate to **Content > Add Content > Page**.

### Step 2: Add page content

1. Enter the name of the page in the **Title** field. The title will display by default as the page heading in the **Top Region** of the page (see [Page Regions](/resource/page-regions "Page Regions") for details about page regions).
2. To replace the **Title** with a **Top Region** component, such as a **Hero** or **50/50 Cards** component:
    1. Deselect the **Show Page Title on Details Page** checkbox.
    2. Select the **Choose component** button in the **Top Region** section.
    3. Choose a component from the list that appears (see [Adding a component](/adding-component "Adding a component") for instructions on how to add a component).
    4. Follow the instructions associated with the selected component (for example, [Hero](/hero "Hero") or [50/50 Cards](/5050-cards "50/50 Cards")). Make sure to provide a descriptive heading and set its **Heading Level** to **H1** for a component that replaces the page **Title**.
3. Add content and components to the **Main Region**. Content and components added to this section will display within the main content area of the page.
    1. Click within the **Body** area. You can add content, images and quotes within this section (see [Text Editor](/resource/text-editor "Text Editor") for details about using the toolbar and text input area). Add content for the page in this area.
        1. If you would like to add an image within your content, click on the media icon (see [Adding an image](<adding an image>) for instructions for adding an image using the text editor).
        2. Format all of your content and images using the text editor.
    2. Add components to the **Main Region** by selecting the **Choose component** button in the **Additional Content** section (see [Components Overview](/components "Components") for a list of all available components).
4. Add components to the **Bottom Region**. Components added to this area will display full-width, below the **Main Region** content.

### Step 3: Configure page settings

1. To provide a link to the page in the site menu, select **Menu Settings** and then select the **Provide a menu link** checkbox and provide the following details:
    1. **Menu link title:** The menu link is automatically set to the **Title** field but you can edit the menu link title if needed.
    2. **Description:** In most cases a link description is unnecessary. We recommend leaving this field blank.
    3. **Parent link:** Locate the page within the site menus using the **Parent link menu**. Select **<Main navigation>** to include the page as a top-level link in the main site menu. Select a section or subsection link as the parent link to include the page as a submenu item.
    4. **Weight:** The weight determines the order of the link within the selected menu. We recommend using the menu management features instead of weight values (see [Managing menus](/managing-menus "Managing menus") for instructions on creating and configuring menus).
2. Add a descriptive **Excerpt** to display on search results.
3. We also recommend assigning taxonomy terms to pages, to help filter search results (see [Taxonomy best practices](/resource/taxonomy-best-practices "Taxonomy Best Practices") and [Managing taxonomies](/managing-taxonomies "Managing taxonomies") for guidance on creating and using taxonomies).
4. Add a **Thumbnail** to provide additional context about the person for site visitors.
    1. The optimal image size (in pixels) for a thumbnail image is 960 x 540 (see [Image Sizes](/resource/image-sizes-old "Image Sizes") for more details).
5. The first time you save a page, we recommend you save as a **Draft** so that you can preview the page and its links before publishing it to your site (see [Publish Status](/resource/publish-status "Publish Status") for details about different publication statuses).
