## How to add a Columns component

### Step 1: Add a Columns component

1. Add a Columns component (see [Adding a component](/adding-component "Adding a component") for instructions on how to add a component).
2. You can select the **Section Heading** tab to add an optional section that appears at the top of the Columns component (see [Adding a component heading](/adding-section-heading "Adding a section heading") for details about adding a section heading).

### Step 2: Add content to each column and save

1. Select the **Content** tab and click on the pencil icon in one of the columns to edit and add content to that column.
2. You can add a heading to your column. Select a heading level from the **Heading Level** menu that correctly reflects the information structure of the content. For example, if your Column component has an H2 heading, the column **Heading Level** (the headings on each column) should be H3.
3. You can add content to the column using the Body field, or you can add a component to the column by clicking on the **Choose component** link under **Components**.
    1. Note that only **Embed**, **Image**, **Text**, **Video** and **List components** are allowed in columns.
4. Once you have added the contents of your first column, you can repeat steps 1 to 3 above for the second column.
5. Select the **Color Settings** tab.
    1. Select a color from the **Item Color Scheme** menu.

### Step 3: Configure the Columns component

1. Select the **Block Settings** tab.
2. Add an optional **Page Anchor Link** to allow for (anchor) links to the Columns component (see instructions under [Linking to page content](/linking-page-anchor-links "Linking to on-page anchor links")).

### Step 4: Save the Columns component

1. Once you have finished adding content to the component, choose **Save** to save the Columns component.
